First Step:

Deciding to do something to improve the quality of your life – register for Dare to Meditate.

Meditation is a great way to balance a busy lifestyle with the peace and harmony we all long for.  What I’ve found works best for me is to meditate first thing in the morning otherwise life gets in the way and meditation gets moved to the bottom of the list and left for tomorrow and we all know tomorrow never comes.

I meditate six times a week, 20 minutes a day.  First thing when I wake up I:

  • crawl out of bed
  • get the coffee perculating
  • roll out my yoga mat
  • set up my chiropractic neck rolls
  • set my timer for 20 minutes
  • pop my eye pillow over my eyes
  • and off I slip into bliss

I like to meditate again late afternoon early evening for an extra boost of energy for another 20 minutes usually 4-5 days a week.

Second Step:

Choose your level of commitment.  Whether you meditate every single day with us or once a week decide in advance what day and time you are going to meditate and STICK TO IT NO MATTER WHAT.

The key is to create a regular, consistent meditation practice.

Tony Robbins has a great golf story and shares with us that sometimes when nothing is working a 2 millimeter shift is all you need to go from horrible to a world champion.

Doing something is better than doing nothing at all.

Third Step:

Prepare the space.   Things you may need:

*yoga mat or sitting cushion (either can be found on www.ebay.com or www.amazon.com)
*eye pillow/mask
*timer
*access to your computer
*earphones/earbuds
*neck rolls (I got mine for $10 at the chiropractors office but you can roll up a towel to put under the crook of your neck and your lower back.
*pillow for under your knees if lying down

Some people like to meditate sitting, others like to meditate lying down.  I prefer lying down.  If you aren’t prone to falling asleep lying down is fine, but if you have a tendency to drift into lala land easily you’ll want to sit on the floor or in a chair that’s not too comfortable.  Experiment.

Either way create the space.  Having an alter is nice with a candle, matches, special picture or memorabilia.  The more convenient it is the more likely you are to stick with it.

I meditate in the middle of the living room floor so don’t feel like you need a special spot or else it won’t work.

Fourth Step:

Invite a friend.  Research shows follow through is higher when you buddy up with someone.
